17 Questions To Ask Before Choosing Commercial Flooring

Will viruses, bacteria, germs, yeast, or other microbes grow on, feed on, create a foul odor, or deteriorate my floor?

Everlast® Floor is formulated with an epa-registered anti-microbial component which prevents the growth of potentially harmful microbes. This is part of the entire floor system, not just the top-coat, so you do not have to worry about it wearing-off with the sealer. Should your floor be gouged, it will still have the protection.

Your floors will be resistant against staining, mold, fungus, and foul odor. Your epoxy floor coating will not deteriorate as it is protected against bacteria, viruses, yeast, and other microbes. This is important to consider when planning for a veterinary floor, restaurant kitchen floor, aquatic center floors and public restroom flooring.

Will my floor be easy to clean or will it have pockets, pores, seams, or cracks and crevices to trap dirt and grime?

Most all epoxy flooring is seamless, but are applied in multiple layers, adding a sand-like grit with each coat. This creates crevices for dirt and grime. While they are still non-porous, in that water will not get through, they are very hard to clean.

Everlast Epoxy Flooring is poured and troweled as one layer so there are no areas for soil to hide. While our kitchen grit is coarse, it does not trap in dirt and grime and can be easily cleaned with a deck-brush and squeegee. Our kennel and restroom epoxy floor finishes can be easily mopped.

When maintaining it with the specially formulated floor cleaner that Everlast Epoxy recommends it needs no scrubbing or "elbow grease". The dirt and grime just "beads up" and can be rinsed off with water. Together, Everlast® Floor and Everlast Epoxy’s recommended cleaner will save you time and money on maintenance.

Restaurant Epoxy Floor Will my commercial flooring be "environmentally friendly"?

Every facility has its own special need for protecting its floors and walls. Porous or cracked concrete, eroded joints in tile and open control joints all pose problems for facility supervisors having to protect against mold, insects, and bacteria infestation hazards.

Everlast Epoxy can solve those problems in a way that is also better for the environment.

A. Less water is consumed during cleaning because your epoxy flooring will not trap dirt and grime.

B. Because it is seamless, there are no cracks and crevices for insects to hide. Cleaning is also easier and more effective. This minimizes the insect population and fewer pesticides are needed - which also lowers the cost of your pest managment.

C. Everlast Floor is made from natural stones and organic resins. Unlike most epoxy floors, Everlast Epoxy Flooring contains no solvents. No solvents means no evaporation and contamination, which makes it one of the most environmentally friendly epoxy floors in the industry.

Will my poured epoxy floor be hard and brittle?

Most resinous floors on the market are very hard and brittle. This is why they crack apart and peel off the floor. Any movement in the subfloor, extreme temperatures, or dropping a heavy object will damage it because it is too hard to handle it.

Everlast® Floor is formulated with a flexibilizer to make it tough and durable. It will allow for some movement in the floor and will absorb impact and high temperatures.

Seamless Epoxy Floors & Walls Will my floor provide moisture protection?

Many epoxy floors claim to be waterproof, but unless they are resin-rich, they are only temporarily waterproof. Too much aggregate needed for most quartz epoxy flooring leads to voids and are easily penetrated. Such epoxy flooring systems, even when "top coated" provide only temporary protection and will fail prematurely.

Everlast Epoxy Flooring provides a seamless, waterproof, self-containing surface, ensuring that the water goes into the drains as it should, rather than damaging the walls and subfloor.

It is not only waterproof, but it also bonds to all the drains, electrical conduits, coke conduits, gas lines, plumbing lines, and anything else protruding out of the commercial floor, offering the space underneath complete protection from the moisture in your facility, which, as you may be well aware, can be very costly.

Will there be objectionable odors in my facility during the flooring installation?

If new construction, can other trades safely work in the building during the installation?

If a remodel, will there be unacceptable or harmful fumes that will affect my staff, customers, or visitors, during the installation?

Many resinous epoxy floor coatings contain solvents which emit harmful fumes while evaporating. They should not be installed in a facility while it is occupied.

Everlast Epoxy Floors contain no solvents, and have no objectionable odor. Your epoxy flooring can be installed in your facility while your customers and staff are present. It does not emit harmful vapors and has almost no smell.

Easy-to-Clean Epoxy Floooring Will my floor be slip resistant?

Everlast Epoxy Flooring has a textured finish, it is made with small natural marble stones. Different applications require different levels of slip-resistance.

A. Dry conditions Everlast Floor has a texture from the marble chips. It has a coarse, pebbled, ribbed, but non-abrasive surface.

B. Wet conditions In frequently wet areas, you can add our non-skid grit to the finish coat for added slip-resistance.

Commercial Kitchens Restaurant floors are often coated in grease and oil, making them prone to slip and fall accidents. In commercial kitchens, we offer an ultra-coarse grit for added traction. We also recommend a cleaner that is specially formulated to lift the grease and oil off your epoxy flooring. When our recommended is used on Everlast Epoxy Floors, grease, grime, and oil will "bead up" and can be easily squeegeed away. Because no scrubbing is necessary, your epoxy flooring will be slip-resistant and safe for your kitchen crew every time. As well, it can reduce the cost of your facility maintenance.

In veterinary clinics, aquatic centers and public restroom floors, we recommend using our medium white slip resistant additive. It’s the perfect grit - not too coarse.

Will my new floor bond to my existing floor?

Many resinous commercial floors are applied with too much aggregate and not enough resin. This causes a "dry" mix. Epoxy flooring installers do this to save money, as the resin costs much more than the aggregate.

You can easily see if your flooring is being done properly; if the material "piles" instead of "pours" then it does not have enough resin.

Commercial Epoxy Floooring Ours is made with a resin-rich formula so the epoxy resin will saturate into the concrete, plywood, or tile while curing. It vulcanizes itself with the subfloor to become part of the subfloor, so as long as the floor has been prepared properly, your Everlast Epoxy Floor can last a lifetime.

Will my floor be affected by the chemicals used in my facility?

Everlast Epoxy Flooring has an established record of success where floors are subjected to severe exposures. The daily soaking of animal fats, grease, oil, many acids, alkali, sugar, blood, urine, and salt, has no effect on its durability so long as this daily saturation is paired with nightly cleaning with Everlast Floor Cleaner.

Will my new floor be affected by extreme temperatures?

Everlast Floor is an excellent choice for a commercial restaurant kitchen with ovens, grills, and fryers, because it can absorb high temperatures. For a resinous epoxy flooring to perform in high heat conditions, it must absorb and transfer the heat. Everlast Floor is a thick, troweled on epoxy floor coating and can repeatedly withstand temperatures up to 158 °F.

A. High Temperatures Most epoxy flooring is applied by first painting the concrete, then broadcasting quartz sand into the resin. After curing it is painted again. This flooring resembles a cake in that there is not enough resin in the middle, only a thin layer on top. Hot grease and oil will then soften and penetrate this layer causing a "pitting" effect.

B. Low Temperatures It is an excellent choice for freezers and coolers. Cold temperatures have no effect on its durability. It coating maintains its antimicrobial properties even in freezing temperatures.

Will my floor wear out or form traffic patterns in high traffic areas?

Veterinary Pet Care Epoxy Flooring When choosing a commercial flooring for a high traffic area, wear resistance is important.

Many resinous floors are diluted with fillers and / or solvents, after time oftentimes a wear path will begin to form. Inferior quality epoxy flooring cannot take the abuse of constant traffic coupled with harsh elements.

Ours is not diluted with any solvents or fillers and is formulated with quality resins, so it will not form a wear pattern.

What is the life expectancy of my new epoxy flooring?

Everlast Floor will provide a bonding and strength greater than the cohesive strength of concrete in tension and shear. The durability and abrasion resistance far surpasses that of dense concrete. Everlast Floor has the similarities of terrazzo as they have an unlimited life expectancy. So long as it is not abused, it will maintain its original beauty for years to come. This makes Everlast Floor the most cost effective solution on the market. For an epoxy flooring that can last a lifetime, call us at (800) 708-9870. Can I have designs and logos in my floor?
