Epoxy paints are designed to be applied onto the substrate of your existing floor with a roller. To make the paint “rollable,” it is thinned using solvents—but this can weaken the bond between the concrete substrate and the paint coating.
Even when applied thoroughly and in several layers, painted epoxy floors can be damaged by oils and solvents. Worse still, alkaline salts in the concrete and mortar can cause efflorescence damage, which is where the paint remains tacky, even after it has cured.
