Epoxy resin floors provide a durable and hard-wearing flooring system that can be used in commercial, industrial and retail facilities across the United States. If you are looking to replace or install a floor, it’s important to do your research and choose an epoxy flooring supplier who will deliver a high-quality system that will look great and last for decades.
If you’re not sure where to start in your search for a professional and reliable epoxy flooring supplier, here are a few tips to help you avoid the “cowboys” who offer inferior products.
Not all epoxy flooring is created equally
The thickness of epoxy resin floors varies between suppliers, and there is surprisingly little guidance out there for anyone tasked with sourcing a new flooring system for their business.
Many epoxy floors are just shy of 2 inches deep—just a thin layer on the surface of the floor that simply can’t stand up to heavy foot traffic without showing significant signs of wear and tear.
At Everlast® Epoxy, we only use the highest quality resins and the correct mix of aggregates to form a seamless layer that’s just over 6 inches thick. This additional thickness means our flooring can withstand high foot traffic or heavy machinery usage and still look and perform as new. Always check with your flooring supplier what depth of epoxy they intend to install—if it’s only a thin layer, look elsewhere. You can also give the Everlast® Epoxy team a call.
Does the flooring have antimicrobial properties?
In a world in which hygiene is more important than ever before, it’s reassuring to know that many epoxy flooring suppliers use an antimicrobial component to help protect the system from a wide range of germs, yeast, fungi, and mildew.
However, most flooring only contains the antimicrobial component in the sealer, leaving the layers underneath unprotected. If the floor is gouged, the exposed layers are vulnerable to bacteria, which can cause foul odors. Everlast® Epoxy floors have antimicrobial dispersion throughout every layer—not just the surface—which protects your floor from top to bottom.
Throughout your facility, the floor has the highest exposure to microbes, and even though no amount of cleaning will ensure you have a facility that is microbe-free, with Everlast® Epoxy you can have the peace of mind that your floors are protected. This is an especially important consideration when installing a floor in a medical facility, commercial kitchen, or public restroom.
Are the installers experienced with epoxy flooring systems?
To maximize the lifespan of epoxy flooring and to achieve the best results, we recommend that the surface temperature should be no warmer than 65°F and no cooler than 55°F at installation.
If your chosen supplier wants to install your new flooring in very hot or cold temperatures, this could be a red flag warning that they are inexperienced or do not have the best interests of your flooring in mind.
We only use experienced and certified flooring professionals and can help you find a qualified installer in your city or state.
How is the flooring tested against harsh chemicals and grease?
There are many environments in which facility flooring is subjected to severe exposure. Ask your potential suppliers how they test their flooring’s resistance to substances such as fats, oil, grease, acids, alkalis, and body fluids. Many suppliers test their floors by exposure to these substances for 24 hours.
In comparison, we test our flooring to its limits with saturation for seven days using a wide range of chemicals, including sodium hydroxide 20%, zinc chloride, household cleaner, hydraulic fluid, motor oil sodium carbonate 20%, and seawater. After exposure to these substances, Everlast® Epoxy resin floors showed no signs of erosion, pitting, severe staining, or swelling.
Read testimonials and reviews
Customer reviews and testimonials are very important to anyone who is looking to engage with a new supplier. Ninety percent of consumers read online reviews before choosing a supplier, and eighty-eight percent reportedly trust online reviews as much as personal recommendations.*
A great way to ensure you work with a reputable epoxy flooring supplier is to check their online reviews and testimonials. If you cannot find any customer praise on the website, or if you note the company is reluctant to supply testimonials, be warned: it may be that they do not have many satisfied customers.
