5 five things you don’t want to find on your commercial flooring

The flooring under our feet is rarely given a thought—that is until something goes wrong. Once one experiences a floor failure, it becomes all too apparent that many flooring solutions are simply not robust enough to stand up to the wear and tear of a busy business or facility.

From rubberized floors and carpets to epoxy resin, facility managers have many options to consider. But can every type of floor withstand anything your organization throws at it? The answer is no. However, there is a multipurpose option to consider; Everlast® Epoxy has been formulated to handle even the toughest of environments and to cope with debris and contaminants that cause inferior floors to fail.

Read on to see how our resin-rich flooring solution deals with a host of things that you never want to find on your floor—and discover why Everlast® Epoxy is a clean, safe, and healthy commercial flooring system for any busy workplace or facility.

No one likes to think that their floor is ridden with bacteria, but even the cleanest of floors will be exposed to microbes blown in through open doors and windows or tracked through corridors and lobbies.

Although many floors claim to have antimicrobial properties, urethane, rubber, and epoxy are not inherently antimicrobial—though they can become so when an antimicrobial dispersion is integrated into the material.

Some systems incorporate an antimicrobial sealant, which only lasts for as long as the top layer is intact. Any gouges or chips will provide a haven for bacteria, leaving the underside of the flooring unprotected and allowing germs to thrive.

Everlast® Epoxy has an EPA-registered antimicrobial component that is dispersed through every layer of the resin, protecting your floor from microorganisms that can spread infection or cause nasty odors. This is especially important in medical facilities where a sanitary environment has become even more vital than ever before in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Grease and oil

If you’re a manager of a commercial kitchen or auto shop, you’ll understand the hazard that spillages of grease, fats, or oil can pose. Keeping your staff safe is of the utmost importance—a slip on a patch of oil could result in your employee taking time off work to recover from a nasty fall or even a costly lawsuit.

Everlast® Epoxy is designed to minimize the risk of slips owing to its textured finish that provides increased skid resistance as compared with other flooring materials, such as tiles or polished concrete.

The textured surface of our epoxy floor has a natural slip-resistance, thanks to the coarse, ribbed, yet nonabrasive marble chips mixed throughout the resin that can provide grip even in wet conditions.

In facilities like commercial kitchens, we recommend adding a nonslip additive to the glaze coating to give the floor a sandpaper-style finish so that even the greasiest of kitchen floors can maintain a slip-resistant surface.

Harsh contaminants

Any flooring installed in a laboratory needs to be hard-wearing and durable. Exposure to harsh chemicals, acids, and alkalis can cause many flooring solutions to pit, erode, or deteriorate.

Everlast® Epoxy flooring is designed to withstand long-term exposure to harsh contaminants, degreasers, and detergents, which will keep your floors looking great for a long time, despite the facility conditions.

We test our flooring rigorously with a seven-day saturation in chemicals such as potassium hydroxide (10%), sodium carbonate (20%) motor oils, hydraulic fluid, and many more substances to ensure it is tough enough to perform even in the harshest of environments.

An insect infestation is the last thing any business wants its customers to witness. Calling in the pest exterminators will not earn you many glowing reviews for your hotel or gymnasium. Furthermore, no business owner wants to deal with the cost of forced downtime owing to a bug invasion.

Inserts love dark crevices and cracks where they can hide and breed—and if your facility has a tiled or rubberized floor, you’re potentially providing the ideal haven for bugs to nest in.

Everlast® Epoxy has a continuous surface with no seams or crevices in which insects can hide. Our resin is troweled onto the floor and forms a physical bond with the substrate. This is bad news for bugs, who have nowhere to go, and good news for facility managers who will never need to call in the pest control guys!

Your customers

The absolutely last thing any business owner wants to find on their floor is an injured customer.

But across the United States, uneven floors, highly waxed floors, or cracked tiles are common but serious safety hazards for visitors to business premises, demonstrated by the $11 billion in claims that are due to falls reported each year.

The smooth, waterproof finish of Everlast® Epoxy means your floor will remain flat and level, and won’t crack or lift like a tiled or carpeted floor can.
