Top 5 Questions About Commercial Epoxy Flooring Systems

Make the right business flooring choice: the top five questions we are asked

Choosing a flooring system for a commercial, industrial, or office-based business is a big responsibility for facility managers. There are many commercial flooring options available, and finding the right solution to align with budgets, installation times, and specific requirements such as slip resistance or antimicrobial properties can be overwhelming.

We are often asked what makes epoxy flooring such a good choice for commercial and industrial sectors. We’ve helped thousands of facility managers make the right flooring decisions—and to help you, here are some of the most common epoxy flooring questions we are asked:

How long will epoxy flooring last?

Durability is a key consideration for any flooring system. Depending on the environment, you may need a floor that can withstand heavy foot traffic in foyers or walkways. In a factory facility, the floor needs to cope with heavy machinery, such as forklift trucks. Medical centers demand a flooring system that is resistant to harsh detergents and chemicals to ensure hygiene levels are maintained.

Everlast® Epoxy flooring ticks the boxes for all these requirements. A correctly installed and maintained Everlast® Epoxy flooring system is designed to last for many years.  We provide a limited warranty that ensures that our flooring will be free from defects, show no signs of excessive surface wear, and provide a nonporous barrier for 20 years after installation.

How safe is epoxy flooring for my staff and visitors?

The health and safety of staff and visitors is the number one priority for a responsible facility manager. In hospitals where vulnerable people are receiving medical care, the need for a safe, sanitary environment is even more important.

Everlast® Epoxy flooring contains an integral EPA-registered antimicrobial component, which protects flooring from bacteria, mildew, and fungi. Epoxy flooring is a seamless, waterproof surface that leaves nowhere for germs to hide—meaning there are no objectionable odors either.

The risk of a lawsuit as a result  of a slip or a fall is something that every business wants to minimize. Avoid the risk of falls by choosing a flooring system with a textured surface. Everlast® Epoxy contains small marble stones to create a slip-resistant surface. If you’re sourcing a floor for a commercial kitchen or auto shop where oils and grease could be spilled, we can include additional grit in the glaze coat for increased slip resistance.

How much labor is needed to maintain and clean epoxy flooring?

Your janitorial staff will thank you for choosing epoxy flooring. Unlike a tiled floor, which will need frequent buffing or waxing to remove scuffs and stains, epoxy flooring requires no heavy maintenance, which allows staff to use their time more productively.

To keep Everlast® Epoxy flooring maintained, we recommend using our Everlast® Floor Care system for impressive cleaning results—without the need for scrubbing. Our versatile and powerful cleaner can be used in all industrial and commercial applications and has micelle cleaning action to repel fats, greases, oils, and sugars that can simply be rinsed away with water.

Enroll in our floor care plan to receive regular shipments of cleaner for the smartest way to make sure your floors will last for decades.

Is epoxy flooring a better choice than a tiled floor?

Yes. Tiles have long been the go-to option for flooring, and we understand why. They are affordable, readily available, and will provide satisfactory protection for two or three years.

Many facility managers are starting to demand more from their flooring, however. Installing and grouting tiles is time-consuming—and if they fail in the first few years, as so many tiled floors do, the floor will need a full replacement, putting a strain on budgets and causing costly downtime within the facility.

Tile grouting is a porous substance, which allows germs and bacteria to penetrate the surface and cause bad odors. After a time, grout can wear or be washed away, which leads to tiles “lifting” and cracking, creating trip hazards—and even more places for microorganisms to hide.

Does epoxy flooring look as attractive as other floorings?

Tiles and carpets can look great—at first. But after time, wear patterns can form, carpets will become stained, and tiles crack and lift.

Epoxy flooring is an attractive flooring system that remains good-looking and full of luster for years. Everlast® Epoxy Flooring is available in over 50 colors, so there is always a shade to match your company’s branding.

Our expert installations can even incorporate designs in the flooring to create walkways or one-way systems to encourage traffic flows. This is especially important as we try to maintain social distancing in a bid to reduce the spread of COVID-19.
